About this calculator
This calculator estimates the fluoride supplement dose category from a child’s age and drinking-water fluoride level. It is designed for dental counseling and should not be used to start supplements without a dentist or clinician.
Uses age and drinking-water fluoride thresholds from AAPD/ADA fluoride supplementation schedules. Supplements require dental/medical prescription and local water fluoride confirmation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start fluoride drops from this calculator? +
No. Fluoride supplements should be prescribed after confirming age, caries risk, local water fluoride, and other fluoride sources.
Why does water fluoride matter? +
Supplements are intended for children with low fluoride exposure. Too much fluoride during tooth development can increase fluorosis risk.
Are supplements recommended under 6 months? +
No supplement is generally recommended under 6 months in the mapped schedule.
What if I do not know my water fluoride level? +
Ask your dentist, pediatrician, local water authority, or use a tested source before using the dose category.
Does toothpaste count as fluoride exposure? +
Yes. Toothpaste and rinses may contribute fluoride exposure and should be discussed with a dental professional.
